2004 European Awards

The awards season officially began today. Well, at least overseas it did. The European Film Award nominations were announced today, with Pedro Almovodar's Bad Education, Alejandro Amenabar's The Sea Inside, and Fatih Akin's Head On receiving the most nominations at five apiece.

Several of the nominated films have already been released in the United States, such as Mike Leigh'sVera Drake, Michael Winterbottom's Code 46 and Bernardo Bertolucci's The Dreamers. Both Bad Education and The Sea Inside are receiving Fall releases and are considered moderate Oscar hopefuls.

Good Bye, Lenin! cleaned up at the awards last year, while Dogville, Dirty Pretty Things, and Swimming Pool all had respectable showings.
