Die Hard 5 Goes to Russia - Yippie-Ki-Yay, Comrade
With Live Free or Die Hard pulling in more than $250 million on top of its original budget, it's little wonder that the studios are interested in a sequel, which has been in development hell for some time now. But the studios are adamant and Bruce Willis never surrenders, so progress is pushing forward, ever so slowly.
The latest rumor puts the film in Russia, with John McLane and his son getting into trouble with the local authorities. Whether that means they're flagged as terrorists or they steal Vladimir Putin's one-of-a-kind, top shelf vodka remains to be seen. What is known, however, is that McLane always works best alone. I didn't hate Justin Long's presence in Live Free or Die Hard as much as some people, but I agree that the whole sidekick thing doesn't really work for McLane. And before anybody brings up Die Hard 3, Samuel L. Jackson was not a sidekick, they were partners, and it was magic.
The film is also looking for a director as Smart People helmer Noam Murro recently dropped out. Rumor has it that John Moore, director of the shamefully bad Max Payne, will take Murro's spot in the director's chair. If this is true, let's hope he does McLane more justice than Payne.

Die Hard in Russia is just a bad idea. The Cold War was dead before the very first Die Hard. I have a hard time watching Live Free or Die Hard on my Die Hard Blu-ray set. I just tune out mostly. I love Bruce Willis. I hate what they're doing to the series though. It should have ended with Die Hard With A Vengeance.
