No Ghostbusters 3 Without Bill Murray?

The will-he-or-won't-he saga of Bill Murray and Ghostbusters 3 has bee a long and arduous one, and based on new comments from actress Sigourney Weaver, it doesn't look like it's going to end any time soon. Just a few short weeks ago, Ghostbusters star and co-writer Dan Aykroyd claimed that the third film would starting shooting in April of next year, regardless of whether or not Murray was onboard. According to Weaver, however, that doesn't seem to be the case.

In an interview with Collider, Weaver, who played Murray's love interest in the first two films, was asked point blank if she would do the third film without Murray. Her answer was a simple no, but she followed it up by saying that she didn't think any of them would do it. That clearly isn't true of Dan Aykroyd, who's ready to leave Murray in the ectoplasm, but Aykroyd can't do it alone. So if Weaver's right and the rest of the cast holds out for Murray, we may have to brace for an even longer wait - or no Ghostbusters 3 at all.

Some would rejoice at the news of Ghostbusters 3 being nixed and their childhood memories remaining untouched, while I'm sure others are itching to don their inflatable proton packs and attend the midnight opening. While I certainly can't blame Aykroyd for wanting to eventually move ahead without him, I consider Murray the X factor. I know that Ghostbusters is a team effort and I love each and every member of the cast, but Murray provides that extra something that really elevates the series. If Peter Venkman is in, count me in as well.
