A woman of good English breeding inherits a run-down hotel somewhere in the southern United States, in the hopes of renovating and opening it up for business again. She is warned away by a mysterious woman who tells her that an artist was killed by a lynch mob in the basement. She refuses at first, but then a number of bodies begin mysteriously turning up, including those of workers connected with the hotel. She then turns to a local doctor for help...
