Kevin Smith

Is anyone else a fan of Kevin Smith. I like all of his films although I didnt care for Jersey Girl all that much. I think Clerks and Dogma are my favorites.

Yes yes oh yes. I love all Kevin Smiths movies. I thought Jersey Girl was pretty good, especially since it didn't have Jay or Silent Bob in it. Yeah, Dogma is a great movie and so is Clerks. I also really enjoyed Clerks 2. Did you hear he was directing a horror movie. Sounds weird right?

Pretty sure he didn't direct or write Jersey girl but he may have helped produce it. But i agree he is very good at what he does and I am a big fan.

dogma is the best. It totally screws up one's belief in religion & yet makes you laugh. Amen!

I know there's another Kevin Smith thread. But, I love all of his films except Jersey Girl.

Dogma is overrated imo.

I've seen similar efforts in "cleverness" and quality when I was in film school.
It's like it tried too much to achieve immediate cult status.

It's not bad. Just overrated.

imo.

I actually think it's his best film.

I like a couple of his movies overall. I really dont think he's an exceptional director by any means but he does have a nack for comedy, comedy with pretty decent dialogue to. But I dont think he really has much else in the locker when it comes to overall cinematic experience.

He also has a way of compiling a cast that usually give performances that give the overall film a little more gravitas.

It probably is.

When I watch a Kevin Smith movie (I've seen all except Clerks 2) it feels to me like watching a short from film school but with a much bigger budget.
You know, one of those "student films" that try to be all clever and cool and funny with edgy storylines, all made to catch the attention of teachers and possibly local newspaper journalists in order to start a career in movie making/Hollywood.

The problem with Smith, for me, is that he's already in Hollywood with his own career yet he still makes these "student films".

I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone but me.

Meh. He's ok.
