I think that Inception was a bit of a more organic sci fi film in that it truly is a heist flick
It does have heist in it indeed, the Heist film is a sub genre though, Science Fiction is a main film genre. But yes, most think when they hear Sci-fi, film types like Star Wars/set in space only, when it's not just that as you pointed out. I like the Organic Sci-Fi that you used.

I didnt say it wasnt sci fi i said it wasnt hard core sci fi and most hardcore sci fi movies turn a lot of people off if they prefer drama or action flicks. Inception was indeed a sci fi but it was a multi genre film to me because it had many layers to it. It performed well in all that it aspired to do, which was much more than to just be a sci fi flick. Inception appealed a lot more to the general public i think because it had something for almost anyone. No people will not watch a movie based on good content regardless of genre.

All i'm saying is it doesn't have to be hardcore sci-fi, it can be a hybrid wether you like it or not. There are many films which are indeed sci-fi, like even poltergeist in hybrid form. Yes it invloves the supernatural, but there are suddle things. Like the advanced technology to detect gohsts. There is no sci-fi(ish) enough. It is or it isn't, wether you agree/like it or not.

Just because it has those elements in it doesn't make it science fiction. Poltergeist is not, for the third time, a science fiction genre film. Alien is a hybrid of Horror/Science Fiction for example that you are on about, yes you can get hybrids. Poltergeist ain't one of them.

Yes A.I. is fantastic! All of these would possibly feature in my Top 10! Predator & Matrix would possibly enter top 20/30, haven't seen them in ages! I watched Dune recently and I just didn't enjoy it that much, the story is interesting somewhat but I just found some points confusing especially on the opening bits of the film! The way the film was shot seems abit messy too and doesn't flow great together, that big creature in the tank was rather cool though and the witch!

There's also quite a few I've not seen on your list too Gort!

I'm generally not into sci fi, but the Terminator and Indy series are pretty solid and when i do see ET and The Fifth Element i would imagine i would enjoy them.
