Pretty much anything could be made successfully on film, including a MM back story. It's not a matter of circumstance, but of the one behind it. If Stanley Kubrick rose from the grave to make it, I'm confident that it could've worked. The problem with Zombie's version was that it just wasn't interesting, and with the inevitable comparisons that viewers make to the original, the essence of the redefined character pales in contrast.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I think the reason the original Halloween worked so well is it taped in to that primal fear we all have of the boogeyman. Michael is the noise you hear upstairs when your all alone. He's the bump in the night that wakes you up. I don't need to understand the thing in the night I just need to be afraid of it. I think to try to put anything else into it just ultimately ends of diluting it.

I think Zombie's movies are crap and it's a shame that if the idea had to be done that someone with more talent didn't do it so we could instead be talking about whether or not it worked rather than if it could have.

^ I already know that's a bad film just by looking at the title. Who the hell would think Hot Rod would make for a good movie title? It's one of those movies you know it's going to suck without watching the movie itself.
