People that refuse to see a Mel Gibson film because of what he does off screen are a joke. Guess they'll boycott Woody Allen and Roman Polanski flicks too.
Polanski committed statuatory rape but when Woody got involved with his current wife wasn't she over 18?
I could really care less about an actor's or director's personal life.
I watch Roman Polanski films and I think the guy should have been extradited to the US. To defend him just because he is a famous director or even because his victim forgives him isn't relevant. It's wrong that he got special treatment because he was famous. When he was first charged (1977), if he been a nobody, he would probably still be in jail.
Limitless revolved around and fleshed out an intriguing, original concept...in many ways, a fantasy. The acting (specifically from Bradley Cooper and Abbie Cornish) and the slick visuals held my interest, and the movie in general seemed fast-paced and energetic. I do think it faltered some toward the end.
Spoiler
Act 2 set up a good thriller scenario, while Act 3 was more like Wall Street crossed with Scarface. After seeing the lives of Eddie and even his girlfriend put in imminent danger and delving into the dark side of NZT, it was hard to get excited about business meetings. Act 3 also came across as shallow in comparison, probably because Eddie's relationship with Lindy was the most emotional, and she only returned for about thirty seconds at the very end.
At the end, there wasn't really any evidence that Eddie was using his powers for good. I don't doubt that he's a more worthy candidate than the guy having people killed, but because so many did die in the process, it would help the happy ending to show that some good came out of it. Maybe he could have found a way to help his ex-wife?
Also, the trailer showed that line about being fifty moves ahead, which suggested we would see something like that in the movie. We don't. Eddie exhibits knowledge, insight, and memory, but his strategies are always straightforward, never remotely chess-like.
It's a good movie, just one that suggested a better movie.
ttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0287467/ another good one from Pedro Almodóvar. I really liked Bad Education and Volver, so I'm going to rent some more of his films.
