Last theatrical film I saw was 'Immortals' and man did it stink. The 3-D even worse. The friggin' film was so dark you couldn't see diddly. A waste of extra cash for those who have to pay it. I also saw that Jonny Depp film 'The Rum Diary' which was another dog biscuit. It basically went nowhere by the end credits. Boring and the two funniest scenes were in the trailer. So I went 0 for 2 on Sunday and I'm actually being more careful in the films I choose so as not to go wasting my hard earned cash on garbage that makes the millionaire actors richer.

Just got back from watching Take Shelter. Yes it is slow moving which some equate to boring. It's not boring at all. I thought it is well worth seeing. It's about a man who begins to have visions of an ominous storm brewing and fears for his family. He decides to renovate an old strom shelter in the back yard. He worrie's about his sanity because his mother was a schitzophrenic (too lazy to check the spelling
) I won't say any more. Zippy says 8/10.

The Adventures of Tintin (2011) - IMDb in 3D - slow to start certainly but once it got going it was a rip roaring adventure in the style of Indiana Jones, but remaining somewhat faithful to the book and the humour of Herge. 7/10
The 6th Day (2000) - IMDb - Arnie stars in this enjoyable futuristic action thriller, with underlying messages about the dangers of human cloning. 7/10 |

Puss in Boots
Was this really needed?? a sequel/prequel spin off from the 'Shrek' franchise, you gotta be a fan of Shrek for this to be a winner for you methinks. Its a nice idea to explore the routes for the character but the characters are so weak, even in 'Shrek' they were, and its so so cliched and unoriginal. Sure its for kids to a degree but these days animated films are as much for adults as they are for kids, especially Shrek, and this is just an obvious money spinner really. It looks great as all cgi flicks look, there are one or two amusing moments but personally I just hate the western/Mexican/Spanish theme being used here, making the small villages out to be basically Mexicans from something like 'The Three Amigo's', why!!? We know why, because Banderas is basically doing his 'Zorro' thing, a spoof of course but none the less the same thing, also add another cliche using Hayek and voila! a Spanish/Mexican Puss in Boots *groan*. The fact they also made 'Jack n Jill' Southern US rednecks with Billy Bob Thorton is even worse, I dunno what the obsession is in films with US Southern hick accents geez! sounds awful. So it didn't tickle me personally but it does have some nice ideas, 'Humpty Dumpty' is by far the best thing in the film. |

The Ward not one of John Carpenter's best, but pretty good horror. He doesn't feel the need to use gross shit to try to make the film scary which to me is good.
The Ledge Charles Hunman (Sons of Anarchy) is on the ledge of a very tall building and has to jump off at a specific time. Terrence Howard is the cop trying to change his mind aand listen to his story. Very good character driven film with impressive acting by all.

Batman: Year One (Video 2011) - IMDb - Animated version of the excellent graphic novel by Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli. It's a faithful adaptation but I just think it works better in it's original format. 6/10
Panic Button (2011) - IMDb - Best British film I've seen since Hush a couple of years back. Some of acting isn't the best but the plot and the tension is superb. It's a massively way over the top revenge flick but totally works. 9/10 |
