The Last Supper (1995)
This movie was fucking terrible. Horrible acting, random stuff happening all over the place. And it was billed as a "comedy" which doesnt make sense at all unless the funny part was how humorously bad this was. |

Age of Dragons (2011)
Reworking of classic novel Moby Dick but this time using dragons as the game or hunt as it were. To be honest this is a really neat idea, the only problem is its been made poorly which is a shame. I think this could of worked had a little more time and money been invested, the cast are OK I guess..for an action type film, Danny Glover is a little miscast as Ahab perhaps but Vinnie Jones does surprisingly well as does the hero Sevier as Ishmael. Nothing to rave about of course but the cheesiness of it all suits them fine and you know to expect cheese. Of course the effects are slightly off key, cgi is average but shows promise, even the use of old techniques used by Harryhausen are used at one point which almost works (oddly it looked better in the old mythology films of Harryhausen). Then you do have silly things which needed more planning such as the Pequod as a wheeled land tank/ship, didn't really work as it was way too small looking despite about eight adults apparently living in it with lots of quarters shown, plus how did it run? petrol? diesel? ![]() I must also mention my dislike of virtually everyone in action films these days being some kind of martial arts expert and able to defeat multiple enemies without breaking sweat, it really is so so over used and in this film so out of place, what's wrong with some good old fashioned fisticuffs? A nice idea but the execution is weak, worth checking out if you like dragon flicks though. |

Jack and Jill
Wow Mr Sandler! what on earth is going on here!? I realise you are not exactly flavour of the month anymore but was this REALLY needed?? Talk about shovelling the shit Jesus! there was a time when Sandler was quite amusing and his films about standing up for the average Joe's whilst playing the typical everyman were fun, but that was along time ago. His childish toilet humour now seems completely redundant and boring and this film really is a prime example of how basic and pathetic his films now appear. Sandler plays himself (as usual) and his twin sister who also (surprisingly) turns out to be kinda like every other character Sandler has played, that's all you need to know. There is completely nothing here I can be positive about, its utter tripe from start to finish much like Martin Lawrence's 'Big Momma' 'comedy' films. What I can't believe is why Johnny Depp and Al Pacino would wanna star in a film like this for, its not like they need the work. |

Frantic with Harrison Ford was awesome Escape. I'm really glad you saw that quietness about it as I thought I would be the only one. Not like normal thrillers, the pacing was slow, yet it felt fast as you tried to piece together pieces of it. I'll admit i was spending too much time thinking about why his wife was kidnapped that I kind of missed the point at the end. It seemed to be over quick without a proper explanation or maybe that was just me. Albatross. I'd say this is like Tamara Drewe, and both have a rather strange vibe to them and you can't help but like the main character who causes havoc and destruction to the family's portrayed. The Woman In Black. Rather frustrating, I stupidly expected something different, when in reality it was quite tedious and really simple. There are two types of these haunted house/people films. One has good tension building up in a good film. The other has good FALSE tension building up to...emmm nothing. Unfortunately while I never thought of Radcliffe as Harry Potter during the film, it was predictable and lame. I was intent on liking this so don't always judge by the trailer. It's a funny one as it was well made with good performances, but wasn't scary(quick jumps over and forgot about) Technically a well made film, though it didn't provide what i felt it should have and judging by the not scared other people watching the film, they agreed. Chronicle. Utter brilliance. Very unique film that is in no way just what is shown in the trailer. So many different emotions and themes are explored and the film is unbelievably mesmerising. A true achievement for a film which quite surprisingly was made for less than $20 million with effects that no superhero movie I don't think could ever achieve. Hard to market but the UK at least is finally getting the message that different, indie films are quite a lot of the time really good but just never get marketed that well. This film should change all of that. It makes you think, however it is as equally entertaining and fun as it is intelligent. Never have I seen a film that has so much happening in it all crammed into under 90 minutes. I predict a bright future for the great three main actors portraying diverse characters in the film. For what the young guy Andrew goes through in the film I felt so sorry for him and I think I speak on behalf of most people as I think everyone has been bullied at some stage, even if you haven't this film will show bullies that it is never acceptable to do that to a person. Yet the disturbing and dangerous things his character does should be condemned. You should feel that what he does is unacceptable yet you root for the main character who isn't a hero, yet a bullied, young lad who sees things from a different perspective and is never given any notice at school until he has a power and is able to build himself into an overnight sensation, then the power overcomes him and he spirals out of control. It is easy to see why the power overcomes him and he hates the world, also largely due to the fact that he is abused by his piece of shit dad. The film will make you question yourself as to what is acceptable and why you root for Andrew instead of feeling that what he is doing wrong. It also shows that some psycho's may have never committed terrible crimes has they been brought up in a stable home envrivonment which is why one scene in particular towards the end frustrated me. It's hard to recommend and I would have thought not everyone would have 'got' the film yet quite joyfully everywhere I seemed to turn before seeing the film, it was advertised. So a genuinely fantastic indie film that is at times funny, disturbing, claustrophobic, entertaining, thought provoking and never boring. When do you ever get an independent superhero film with an unknown cast and great shaky camera work(which actually enhances the film and makes it more real) with emphasis put on the entire thing instead of just for pure entertainment? You don't and that's what aspects makes this film extremely original. Independent films are the best for everyone trying to band together to build the best possible movie they can instead of recycled Hollywood material. Finally we are getting somewhere.

The Women in black (1989)
Start of really slow, had some good tense moments, the bed scene was just really odd but the ending was bit chilling gave me the chills. Acting was Great from everyone. I give this movie 6/7 out of 10 Now I can see the remake Tomorrow Also seen this week Chronicle (2012) Good , mostly fun movie but god the Andrew Dad was nuts! What hell was wrong with him. Anyway, I enjoyed the rest of movie and really entertaining. 8 out of 10 Then I saw Stag Night (2009) This movie was hard to watch because of the Cameraman, as it was shaking way to much for normal movies, Even Chronicle had less Shaky Camera compare to this movie. This movie is worth watching, I think, it dose have bloody moment here and there and the acting was not bad at all but that about, At the end of the movie, I laughed after last scene, i found it so bad that it was funny. 4 out of 10

Seen it before, but blimey I loved every second. The best fantasy, swords and sandals, homoerotic, CGI, action, battle movie you’re likely to see? Almost certainly. Blood spurting, men shouting gruffly, tight shorts and tunics and more arm and leg loppings than you could squeeze into a Peter Jackson movie, this is just great all round. And all the more remarkable in that it was directed by Zack Snyder, responsible for probably the worst film of 2011.

Parents (1989)
Quirky little number this, first time I have seen it and I quite liked it Came across as a 'Little Shop of Horror's' black gallows humour type of film to me with a slight sprinkle of tension. Its an odd one for sure, Randy Quaid is perfect as 'Dad' with that eerie joker-ish smile of his, Mary Beth Hurt accompanies Quaid well as 'Mum' to make a great kooky couple. The various scenes of eating dinner with close ups of the meat really does make you uncomfortable and your mind swings from judgement to judgement on wether little 'Michael Laemle's' parnets really are serving up human flesh for tea hehe. Personally I could never really make up my mind if the whole thing was a dream or just a little boys crazy imagination, the film plays out quite surreal which keeps you guessing. Being set in the 50's really adds that kind of bizarre yet fun twist to it, almost impossible to think such things could happen in a perfect all American home in the happy 50's. The cute sitcom like soundtrack adds zing, makes the whole thing out to be almost silly, light hearted or even a kids film, truth be told the film gets darker and darker as it goes on yet your never really scared, more intrigued and curious. A real cult oddity which works due to the brilliant performances of all the cast members. |
