![]() Whew, some of this was painful to watch. The feeling of Straw Dogs meets Deliverance never left my head while watching this either. Beautiful woodland scenery, fine direction, great acting (for the most part), and some genuinely disturbing sequences make The Backwoods, for the most part, a good film, despite the weak story. Two couples visiting the woods of Spain discover a little girl locked inside a cabin. The decision is made to take care of the girl until they can get help from the local police. That is until a few equivocal men show up at their front door demanding to know the girls whereabouts. The two couples make a fatal decision to keep their finding of the girl a secret from the peculiar men, which unleashes suspense-filled terror in the woods. On a good note; the film is very well-made, incredibly well-acted from its two leads, and a treat to look at. The film succeeds tremendously at disturbing the viewer (well, it disturbed me quite a bit, notably with the rape scene), and building suspense. I note the rape scene as the most memorable and disturbing scene in the film. What makes it even more dreadful to watch is, even when the rapist is shot and killed, satisfaction is the last thing on the characters minds. The cinematography is impressive as well, especially with the rainy woodland scenes. On a bad note; it suffers from a weak plot-line and cliche story-telling. Some illogical mistakes from the leads may have you scratching your head. For instance (and here's a spoiler), when Paul accepts his fate at the hands of the enemy when he could have easily made an effort to defend himself. It comes about an hour through the film, so I hope I'm not spoiling too much. The performances are mainly strong, notably from the two leading heroes and the leading villain. The score is fine. It's unique and fits the film rather well. Overall, my only complaints were stated in the above paragraph. It's not great, but an acceptable effort on the part of the filmmakers. I liked it. 3/5

I was up late last night watching 'Clay Pigeons'. I really liked this film and it ties up the ending quite nicely. Vince Vaughn's character was hilariously disturbed but one you kind of like in an odd sort of way.

Awesome. Are you one of the people who track TCM's schedule and gets yourself notified of films you want to see like I am?
I don't know if I'll be up for Hangmen then but I'll definitely try to see Fury.

Serenity - The visuals were excellent, everything looks real. The dialogue was a little silly in my opinion, I thought they were trying too hard to make it unique. But still, a good movie. 8/10
The Woods Have Eyes - It was okay, not really my kind of thing, but I have to give it a big fat zero because of the ending. I won't say what it was, in case anyone wants to watch it, but I hate it when movies end the way this one did, it really ticks me off. Dead End - Really weird. At first I had no idea what was going on, I was thinking the movie was going to be dumb. But once I started to figure things out, it was actually a decent movie. 7/10
