Modern Filmmakers Aping Classic Styles

Has anyone noticed more and more modern filmmakers creating new works in old styles? Aside from the high profile ones like QT & Rodriguez and the Grindhouse thing, I discovered an indie guy who makes only 1950's style sci-fi and horror movies. He's pretty good AND his movies aren't spoofs. They're honest to god, non-joke, modern-made, old-style movies. I got one off of NetFlix called The Monster of Phantom Lake and absolutely fell in love with it. He's got one coming out next year called Cave Women on Mars. Seriously. Another good example is the one that came out a couple years ago, Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. Anyone see that? I liked it but it was really hit and miss with the jokes. Great monster costume though.

yes. Film makers sometimes wanna bring back nostalgia but with a modern touch.
M night shamalan done this slightly with the opening credits of signs. The music was very 50's like too.

There is a danger with becoming too modern in film and one has to choose the right cinematrography for the type of movie they are making.
For example, i felt die hard 4.0 looked far too bluey and shiny and would have preferred it to look simple 80's style. It just didnt look right for a hardcore action film like that.

Check them out

I highly recommend them. Go to The Monster of Phantom Lake or The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra - Official Site. Both worth checking out if you're a fan of 1950's b-movies like Them! or anything by Roger Corman.

It is not a question of bringing back nostalgia necessarily, Film makers, driven by the industry, are like the fashion business, recycling styles over and over, but always with a twist. We know what came before
By the way I would love to bring back the afro on my own head but I'm bolding so that's a no no.
