Sorry, I would post more often but I usually haven't seen both films in each session.
vs ![]() 12 Angry Men vs Dog Day Afternoon, both directed by Sidney Lumet Films similar in more ways than one; they are both Lumet's masterpieces alongside Network and both take place over the course of one day. A bit of a tough decision, but I would probably go with 12 Angry Men for holding up better on repeated viewings and for being so emotionally powerful come the climax. |

12 Angry Men - The movie has 12 magnificent performances, of course the stand out is Henry Fonda, in I think his best performance, but to get out of your entire cast brilliant performances without fault in my opinion is magnificent. And to create such a great movie incorporating tremendous tension and drama in one room is just phenomonal. I know Dog Day Afternoon is similar in a locational sense but I just dont think it pulls it off as well as 12 Angry Men does.
In my opinion the movie is a masterpiece. And I really should buy it on DVD when I next get the chance. Thats not to say I dont like Dog Day Afternoon, I just dont think it matches up as well to 12 Angry Men and Lumet's other masterpiece Network. |

Another resounding voice for 12 Angry Men. I've got it as one of the ten best films ever made and one of the few truly perfect films.
Pepper: I think Fonda's best is On Golden Pond---#3 in my personal rankings of the all-time great film performances---but 12 Angry Men is definitely high up there on his list of career-best.
