The Third Man takes this one IMO. M is one of Fritz Lang's best, if not his best, but The Third Man is tough for lots of films to beat.

One of the best film noirs ever made, second only to The Maltese Falcon IMO; great performances from everybody, even the actors who only have one or two scenes; a great screenplay; one of my all-time favorite scores; great lighting/cinematography, namely Orson Welles' introduction scene; and one of my favorite endings.

I have never actually seen M in its entirety, only the first 15 minutes or so, what I saw was good, but, the rest would have to be some movie to beat The Third Man in this contest.

The Third Man is one of the best movie's I have ever seen.

Tough one. M is absolutely stunning for the year it was made and Peter Lorre is utterly convincing in the role. The Third Man is a masterpiece of the cinema as well. I think I will choose the latter, simply because of how hypnotic it is.

I started watching M a couple of months ago but never finished it.... i know i should. Still, it would have to be an incredible film to beat The Third Man!

Braveheart versus Gladiator.

This debate was brought up on another forum and I thought it'd be interesting to see which you guys think is superior. I like them both but I've got Gladiator ahead by a wide margin.

You guys?

Gladiator hands down - I'm not to fussed about acurate historical record on film. What I do care about is the amount of entertainment I get from sitting through it, and in this case Gladiator is the winner, it is masterfully directed by Ridley Scott (who should have gotten the Oscar in my opinion) and the acting throughout even in the smaller roles throughout are perfect, I'l pick out Russell Crow, Joaquin Phoenix and Oliver Reed for special attention because I believe they are all at the top of their games (Russell Crow might have been better in The Insider, but thats just my opinion).

Next time you watch Gladiator, try to look out for the guy wearing Jeans in one of the shots, I think its just after the opeining battle .

Thats not to say I dont like Braveheart, it's probably Mel Gibson's best performance and it is also directed well and has great performances throughout and although I say that which makes it seem that I believe they are of similar quality, I just think Gladiator pulls it off with more eloquence than Braveheart. I just didnt get the same joy out of watching Braveheart that I did when I watched Gladiator for the first time and in subsequent viewings.

The last time I saw Gladiator it had just come out on home video. So, I can't remember much at all about it. Therefore, picking Braveheart wouldn't really be an honest choice even though I do love that movie.
