I think there's a distinction between "splatter" and "torture porn", not in the volume of gore in a movie, but the circumstances that surround it, and how the gore is handled. I'd classify some revenge films such as Last House on the Left in the torture porn category, as well as those with some sado/masochistic overtones. Kill Bill, even though it's technically a revenge movie, would follow more along the lines of "splatter" with it's more whimsical approach to blood spray.
I've not seen The Collector yet, but I think from what I've read it would fall into the torture porn category.

I know it's derogatory but I don't see why it offends them as though they expect many other people to be so accepting of the genre is what I meant. I'm not talking about you so much as some other people I've talked to who really seem pissed off when it's just a term, and given it's popularity will probably lose it's derogatory nature and become simply another neutral synonym.
