~ Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol ~

Trailer:

Whooooooooo, always look forwards to a Mission Impossible film, and nice to see Simon Pegg getting a bigger role this time around compared to the third film.

Looks good at least. Dvd rental at most. I liked it how the director took a new approach to the Mission Impossible series. No more girlfriend love sub-plot, and no more Philip Seymour Hoffman! Now the series is finally going on the right direction! With a new cast and mind-blowing action, I at least have to consider watching it on dvd.

Hoffman was one of the best parts in Mission Impossible 3... what was wrong with Hoffman in your eyes?

Philip Seymour Hoffman And John Wayne: THEY CAN'T ACT!!!

PSH and JW's acting in general. I'm not just talking about Philip Seymour Hoffman's acting in Mission Impossible 3.

Hoffman is too much like John Wayne (Which I also hate). He isn't even funny (Badly overrated performance in Punch Drunk Love. And I was actually enjoying Adam Sandler). And the only decent acting PSH ever achieved was in The Big Lebowski. When he's in a movie, he's only in the movie! Just like John Wayne. They're only in a movie to fucking show-off and not give any-real facial expressions. PSH and JW is one faced most of the time, and I always see a frown or smurk on their face, which they try to hide. Not only do both of them degrade the goodness of a movie, is that their bad acting generally leads them to show-cast in boring ass movies.

John Wayne movies that bore me to hell:

True Grit (Original), Rio Bravo, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and The Searchers.

Philip Seymour Hoffman movies that bore me to hell:

Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, Jack Goes Boating, Punch Drunk Love, and Mission Impossible 3.

Nothing wrong with Hoffman's acting at all... certainly not bad. I take it you haven't seen Capote? Doubt? Magnolia?

I would posit that Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the best actors of the modern era. Comparing him to John Wayne is rather peculiar; Wayne being one of the most over the top and theatrical performers Hollywood has known (I'm not using 'theatrical' as a complement in this context as one might when referring to Pacino, for instance), whereas Hoffman is one of the foremost proponents of a naturalistic method working today. To compare their acting styles (if one could call Wayne's acting stylish, I leave up to you) seems completely arbitrary given how different they went about portraying the roles they were cast in.

As for the trailer: It looks like every other Mission Impossible film, which I guess is a part of the series' charm. Not being a fan, I couldn't say. If it's ever on TV and I have a spare 90 or so minutes, I may check it out.

Yep. I think so too. I liked John Wayne and I like several of his movies, but I would never call him a great actor. Also I just can't find any similarities with him and Hoffman. Hoffman is a fantastic actor and his range is amazing. He always makes me feel more emotionally invested in a movie because he is so capable of invoking emotion.
To keep on topic, this MI looks O.K. I'm usually entertained by the series.

Just look at my signature quote. Do I look like I give a shit about Naturalistic Acting?

I haven't seen 'Doubt' yet but I thought that this scene showed how his acting in my opinion can be friggin' brilliant.

As for this new MI movie. I can't wait as I loved the first and third so far. The second was pretty bad though.
