From what i remember A Nightmare On Elm Street didn't use gore as the focus for the kills. Freddy is getting a entirely different new look in this film which is shown in the trailer. As is the settings and different dream sequences are being used, even if they are incorporating similar dream sceens and other things, i'm sure it will be unique and a stand alone movie. I think it's being filmed in different locations from the other movies as well. I'm not too worried in terms if 'originality' and i'm not a fan of dream scenes, but i think i'll enjoy this from what the trailer looks like. Looks like there is going to be some car chase scenes. And i love th look of the snow in the room. Friday The 13th looked as if it would be entertaining to me and it was. So i'm pretty confident i'll enjoy this. Do you think it will be 15 or 18 rated? If it was 15 rated it would mean a wider audience and more profit(which studios like Platinum Studios thrive on)

lol, dude that bed scene alone with that river of blood coming up like a fountain is enough blood for 10 movies.

I already like this actor from 'Watchmen' so I have no problems with him off the bat. I also like that his face appears not so rubbery fake as in the originals.

I've no clue but I suppose I'd prefer it not to be so gory and focus more on the atmosphere, acting and intensity.

That looks like what this new director is trying to achieve judging by the trailer, more action instead of gore. I forgot about that scene in the original where Jonny Depp has blood flowing out of him on the bed. From what i remember though the rest of the death scenes didn't focus on gore. I'm assuming you are going to give this move a chance and go and see it. I hated Watchemn altogether and haven't seen any other movies of that guys, so i'll be fair and say i can't really comment on that dude's acting skills as i detested nearly everything about Watchmen. With a budget of $130 million it should have been so much better and had lots more action rather than a load of shitty dialogue.

When Tina dies in the famous ceiling scene, it's quite bloody. You actually see the four cuts and blood just starts gushing out of her wounds, and there's blood everywhere. It's the combination of well-placed gore, not relying exclusively on it, mixed with the more cerebral themes of dreams vs. reality that makes Nightmare so fascinating.

The Johnny Depp scene actually doesn't have gore per se, in that you don't see anyone bleeding. Glenn gets sucked into the bed, then blood starts gushing out of the hole in the bed. It's really more of a stunt (narratively speaking, on Freddy's part) than anything else, because that was WAY more blood than is in a human body, so it wasn't simply Freddy killing Glenn and spraying his blood everywhere. He really killed him off camera.

But generally Freddy's not playing in anyone's entrails...though in Part 3 he does have Patricia Arquette's mom's severed head talking to her. That was pretty creepy and graphic.

Anyway...I've heard they're going PG-13 (MPAA) on this one. I'm VERY much against that.

I'd prefer it to be R rated for the american rating system and 15 rated for uk rating. They squeeze some gory stuff into Final Destination movies so i don't see why it won't get a 15 rating. If it is going to be PG-13 rated then that means it obviously won't be focused on being gore driven. It could still be great with a PG-13 rating. Look how Drag Me To Hell turned out - awesome.

Me too. That would be horrible.

And on Drag Me to Hell, that worked because the subject matter didn't necessarily lend itself to gore. A movie about being sucked into hell doesn't need it. A movie about a guy who has a razor-blade glove who stabs, slices, and cuts people really should be rated R.

Plus, "Drag Me" had a comedic undercurrent, and still managed to deliver the gross-out without it being gore (the various fluids and everything else)

On the whole, PG-13 horror usually means sucky movie. The only exceptions that I can rembember are "The Ring" and "Drag Me."

Oh my God. Lame.

I guess filmmaking really is going down the toilet.

I suppose with a movie like A Nightmare On Elm Street, an R rating is more suited for the movie. I never really thought of that. I like Freddy's new look.
