your feeling holy has been bolstered by the red clothed pew section reserved for clergy and important visitors.

I said that? When? tell me. So I Shrink from inconveniencing myself by standing for 15 hours in queues, do I? Gosh, Avril, I suppose if a nice French priest offered you a seat in a pew near the Pope, you would turn it down flat and announce, I HAD RATHER STAND FOR 15 HOURS IN A QUEUE THAN ACCEPT YOUR KIND OFFER, YOU BEFUDDLED MISGUIDED CLERGYMAN WHO PROBABLY ABUSES ALTAR BOYS IN THE SACRISTY. Wow, Im impressed. Feghhh. And while I might be a trifle elastic in my use of the word *holiness,* at least, I dont look down on people who believe in a Supreme Deity. Just say it out loud, Avril: all religious people (particularly us inconvenienced ones) are stupid and contemptible. Thank you.

No I do not think that that would make you more holy, to stand in line for 15 hours. I do not believe that in itself constitutes holiness. But I also noted how 'convenient' for you your religious devotion needs to be, before you enact it. You paid your respects to the Pope in a way that put you out not one bit, you cannot seriously believe that makes you holy and others not.

I object to the whiff of the trappings of religiosity rather than genuine devotion, which I do respect, believe it or not, and which is not as evident in your posts as a self-righteous disdain (Your quote: Night night, O Unholy Ones) and some kind of implication that because you feel fond sentimentality for devoted pilgrims and mourners, (and I can't escape the picture of your being thrilled when you look down, from your vantage point, on all those pilgrims and mourners) that that makes you holier than the rest of us.

I object to hypocrisy, not holiness or genuine devotion or spiritual practices which are heartfelt and sincere. I object to the outward show of 'holiness' which concerns itself with sentimental and empy tradition and disdains those who may not go to Church (or your Church) but who nevertheless sincerely believe in a divine power far greater than humankind and practise a sincere spirituality.

And you know what? If I've got it all wrong and you are sincere, PLEASE reconsider the way you express your 'holiness' and your devotion. You sound like a privileged, deluded brat. And secondly, I would not be your friend if I didn't take the piss when you are being idiotic.

Thats it. Only Pigsnoot can call me a privileged deluded brat and get away with it. And yes, you've got it ALL WRONG when you say that I feel HOLIER because I'm sitting in a fucking pew. WTF! HOLIER!?! HOLIER!?! I felt lucky that I didnt have to queue for 15 hrs, I felt grateful to Msgr Lirette, but I did NOT feel HOLIER! You must be crazy. And although you say that you only object to the trappings of religiosity (I guess, those are the solid gold chalices and gold embroidered Lambs of God), so far, I have not heard you say one nice word about the clergy or acknowledged that they have done any sort of good in this world. (Besides appear in movies as abusive fanatical villains!)

So are you my friend? Right now, I rather doubt it.

The Idiot

Hello, sweet idiot from the bloviating over-analyst.

Ok, I over-did it, I apologise.

I remember what a deluded brat I was at your age. (If not that privileged.)

Look, I went to a Catholic convent school, I remember some brutal treatment at the cane-bearing hands of hard-faced nuns. Not all were like that, thank God. One, I'm sure was a positive saint (Sr Mary Aloysius, I pray for you with gratitude still). And now, one of my clients is a nun, God bless her, who is in the process of discovering her past lives, believe it or not. A sweet, genuine person.

I do not hate Catholics, Arch, but I REALLY hate hypocrisy (even when unconscious). You're so young, you seem to be attracted to the trappings of the Church. Please remember to go deeper, when you can.

P.S. Pope John Paul II did a great thing for Poland and the free world...
