Anyways, i'd agree with you on your point of human desperation. However, i mentioned that sending food over there outcompetes local agriculture ("food dumping"). Also, a lot of the violence is just plain criminal in nature-drugs, blood diamonds, and pointless murder. Granted, some violence may be circumstantial and about surivival..but you can hardly say the majority of the violence is caused by that!
Ok but the fact that these countries are crime-ridden in no way excuses us taking away their aid. Why not just fix the system? Not sending them aid will push the worsening of their lives. Besides, the criminals in those countries aren't living in poverty at all, so we could send our military to protect the provisions from their hands, and imprison anyone who does any of the crimes you mentioned.

We have no good reason to punish the innocents who live extremely destitute.

Alright, i semi-agree with you now.

I think genocide should have our attention as a problem-history has taught us so.

However, do you think if Americans were in the same position as they are now that we would receive aid from THEM? I doubt it.

Yes, but they're unable to provide for anyone else as they're struggling to just support themselves because their economy's in shambles. But I'd imagine they would help us if the situations were turned.

I also think the US should've acted sooner during the genocide in Rwanda. By not acting quicker, we let a lot of people get butchered by the unkind forces.

Ever see Hotel Rwanda? It might change your opinion on these issues.

Well, this Arizona thingie is Now the Law. Every vaguely Hispanic looking Arizonian will be stopped by the police and asked for his/her ID. Tsk tsk tsk. Our dear Sunfroggy lives in Arizona.

Don't forget every Hispanic citizen will get pulled over too. They'll certainly be targeted a lot more than anyone else. Anyway, the Governor's pandering to these bigots is truly sickening. I hope her career gets ruined for this.

Wow, I think someone needs to take a "World History" course.
No part of Africa's awlful history is the fault of the US...except maybe providing a market for slavery. But even that was really Dutch, English, and other African Tribe's fault. Rwanda was not a "US" issue, it was a "UN" issue. Basing your information on a Hollywood movie is about as stupid as you can get...even though the movie had some exceptional depictions of the actually truth to the atrosities.

Now as to the US corporate induced slavery in South America...I'd love to see actual fact-based proof of this. Of course, the word slavery is probably being used as an exaggeration to the actual situation. I'm not saying that US corporation aren't taking advantage of the low wages but I don't think you could prove slavery.

Then there's Asia where you can blame most the economically depressed populace on the Europeans...with the exception of the Phillipines...then again, you should probably blame their own government for that.

Want talk the middle-east? That was also the Europeans...mostly England. We're relatively new to the middle-east...and yes, we're not doing very well trying to clean-up the mess everyone else left behind.

Now if you want to talk about US history on US soil, then yes, we've made some monumental screwups there. We screwed the Native Americans out of everything and we still do it. We screwed over all those slaves the Europeans sold here and we've got a long way to go on that issue. We screwed over every single minority group in the US and we still do.

Then there's Arizona. You automatically assume that the law is going to be abused. Of course looking at US history, that's entirely possible. But then again, it could be used correctly. It's surprising that no noticed that this new Arizona law is a mirror of the Federal Laws pass previously and that the Arizona law more or less just oks the federal law to implemented in Arizona. Someone want to explain to me why we can't ask a prisioner (actually behind bars for a crime or crimes) if they're in this country legally? So long as the law isn't abused then I have no problem with it.

Oh and if you want to call me a racist...my children are hispanic.

Here's an update from the frontlines.

Everyone here is going crazy with protests and law suits flying left and right. Wisely, the cops are staying out of it. The Phoenix Suns are now Los Suns to show their support for their Hispanic fans. At least 33% of Arizona is Hispanic btw. After the results of the Census 2010 come out that will drop to 1% tho. Hispanic wasn't a choice. I am now caucasian with spice.

Tucson is sueing the govenor, our congressman is calling for a boycott of Az, the toughest sherrif in Az is calling it racist, and some people from California think it's great and are here to support it and rile up trouble.

Meanwhile, drug smugglers are making things worse for everyone by shooting a cop and giving the pro-demonstrators more ammunition. To make things more confusing, today is Cinco de Mayo, our Hispanic holiday for who knows what. We just like to party.

Finally something exciting is happening in Arizona and I'm inside not photographing it because I'm teaching Tanya how to play Farmville. I got her hooked.

In 45 minutes I'm going out for a run then heading to the park for some fiesta/protest/photo fun.
