Photography.........advice?

I have always LOVED taking pictures. My boyfriend's dad was a professional photographer and he used to say that I had a natural eye for what made a good photo. Well I work in a secondary school now (kids from the age of 12 - 18) and as part of our work pack we are allowed to make use of the facilities of the school (A specialist arts academy)

They've now said that we can take it one step further and do an A-level (Advanced level qualification that you do before going on to Uni) in Art or Photography. Well I've put my name down to do Photography. I know its a common hobby and I've been snapping away for years but now I'm looking at it in less of a point and shoot view.

I've got a fairly good digital camera, and I've just bought a new film SLR camera. I was just wondering whether anyone was also into photography and could offer any words of wisdom or tips etc.

Also does anyone know of any good online websites where you can put your photos so that others can see them? I'm not just after somewhere to put my portfolio photos - I want to be able to share personal photos with people without e-mailing everyone separately. Anyone got any ideas? I know you're a brainy bunch - someone's gotta have some ideas......

thanks - I've put them into a photo blog so I've started....which feels good. They're not great but atleast I've got them online backed up just incase I lose them on everything else. Will post the URL once I've got a few more on there.....

YaY!! A photography thread!!
I use Flickr.com, but there is also webshots.com and a bunch of others. Flickr is more like amateur photography, and webshots is more for landscapes and downloading wallpapers for your computer. They recently updated to be more like flickr tho. Both are free.

Let me jump in the shower and then I'll post some photo links. I just came in from painting and I'm hot.

Shoey Shoegirl likes photos too but she doesn't post very often. *ahem*

Glad you approve lol. When I've got the guts I may post one of my photos. I've not taken anything very complex yet - they're just snaps but I like some of them.

I've ordered a new film SLR online which I should get tomorrow (YAY!). Its a Canon EOS v3000.........as far as I could see it got good reviews. Will that be okay to get me started? I'm okay as far as digital cameras go but I'm a bit clueless when it comes to film. If I asked my boyfriend's dad anything I'd still be here in 2010....he's lovely bless him but I'd never hear the last of it.

For the time being I'm shoving some onto a blogger site - I kept some on there years ago and actually about 5 year later I remembered they were there and rediscovered some family photos which I'd been worrying about losing lol. The wonders of the internet!

BTW I love that little people's photography project. What a wonderful idea?! I remember when I was at college we made a life size sculpture of a bloke out of wire, then dressed him and bent him into a "normal" looking position and we stood him at a bus stop and then waited and took pictures of people's reaction while they thought no-one was looking. That was FAB! I wish I'd kept those photos. That was a long time ago........
