I have been back numerous times as a lurker. Didn't post because I seem to always log in when not much was happening. Probably due to the time zone I'm in.

I have made a video recently though. See what you think;

It's also on Vimeo but you'll need a very fast connection. Or hit play then pause ... go make a coffee then come back and hit play again.

Great video and beautiful scenery. Saw some houses there I'd love to own. Did you film it on one of those 2 person bicycles?

Thanks.

Re the bike: fast forward to exactly 2 minutes into the video and you'll see what sort of bike I was riding as I ride past the camera.

Never saw a bike like that in this country. It looks more comfortable than your standard bicycle. Again, great video.

Definitely more comfortable yes. I can do 160 km rides on this without getting a sore neck, back, knees or perineum.

It's a Bacchetta Corsa from Bacchetta Bikes (based in Florida).

Here's their website; Bacchetta

The other advantage to recumbents is they're faster.

There are two main things trying to slow you down on a bike (other than your (lack of) fitness). The first is rolling (road) resistance, the other is air or wind resistance. The faster you pedal, air resistance becomes the more important factor. Once you start reaching around 25 km/h, 90% of your effort is required to overcome drag/air resistance.

The smallest profile you can present to the oncoming air, the easier it will be to go a LOT faster.

Look at the picture on the extreme left & the extreme right pic (the only one which features a recumbent). The difference in frontal profile is huge. This is why recumbents were banned from professional races by the UCI in 1934. A previously second-rate cyclist was convincingly beating the professionals in all his races and setting world records.

RAAM (Race Across America) allows them though. They just compete in their own category.

For people who ever watched Tour de France or are into cycling (US should know Lance Armstrong of course); these are unsuspecting recreational cyclists that run into this 'fake finish' of this French comedian
