Ha ha yes that is a good idea. But seriously in the next few years they going to be harder to come by-the Japanese protect there classics and don't seem to re-release a lot of them.

If members on here get a chance to view some than take it-you will see where some of the ideas have been pinched and used on other films a bit like Kurosawa's Yojimbo , PLite knows what I am on about here as he is a big asian film fan.

If you want to see the best martial arts than you need to see the following films-Kurosawa's films , Zatoichi and classic Shaw Brothers which I have about 30 of (They made probably over 700 films) including The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin and The Five Deadly Venoms. I have to buy my Shaws from underground sources as there has only at most been about 40 films released by Siren. Don't forget Eight Diagram Pole Fighter as well as The One Armed Swordsman.

I dont see the Japanese as *protecting* their classics -- sadly, I see it more as the Japanese neglecting their chambara heritage and looking forward into a dullish non-samurai world. And while some of the stuff is difficult to get -- my pa's LONE WOLF AND CART: BABY CART TO HADES is on VHS! -- I believe it will always be possible to get these films one way or another, via Ebay or perhaps even taking your family to a little trip to Japan. Yarrrr.

Not with that nuclear fallout from those reactors blowing around-I will just stay in NZ where it is safe.

I used to buy a lot of my Shaws off a guy on ioffer but they closed him down for some reason-never mind I will find other avenues.

Because we watch a lot of Asian films (particularly horror) we just have a lot of players which play in all sorts of regions so we don't care about the films being produced for the U.S. Production quality is sometimes not as good but they're good enough to scare us silly. We have all the samurai TV shows -- I think even from the sixties -- and films. Most have no U.S. translation but there are enough people in the household who speak Japanese. Plus they are not really gregarious when founts of blood erupt on screen or heads fly into the sunset.
