Ah Arch, I was waiting for you to turn up with a sample royal schedule for Dark's edification.

While I'm not a royalist, I admire those who take the responsibility that goes with the position.

I think it's interesting that we still have royalty even in democracies. There's obviously some human need for figureheads or icons. If there aren't any that arise naturally from obscurity like football or other sporting heroes, we create somewhere we can all go and ogle them in anonymity, like film theatres.

I did have a list, but it made my eyes glaze. The amount of paperwork she has to do simply boggles the mind. Frankly, I wouldnt be a royal for anything -- I just wouldnt have a life. I did get this from TIME magazine:

256 overseas trips. Imagine that. She has probably traveled more than the Pope. And these arent fun holidays either. Everything involves a reception or an audience or a dinnur or a trip to a hospital or orphanage or old folks home. The Queen is a Dyanamo. And her family does the same thing, except on a smaller scale. I feel sorry for them and I AM PROUD OF THEM. RULE, BRITANNIA! I LOVE YOU FOREVER!

Nahhh, we only bite in Rugby. That wuz from the 2007 Rugby World Cup. I did notice a couple of players about to burst into tears though. I do that too sometimes.

I think you'll find there are arrogant shites everywhere (look at Mel Gibson's anti-semitism, for one, or Robin Williams, who dissed Australia on Jay Leno after we'd hosted him royally with red carpet treatment everywhere). To slam the Royals - or any group - without acknowledging that there are some that are just doing their job well is unreasonable.

Ok, they're not filth, not all of them at least. But my point that Prince Philis is an a-hole still stands. Even you should agree with that. As for what Robin Williams said, some of it has merit. Every country has its poor part where most people who live there are jerks, and maybe he experienced the lesser half. I also think Australia's PM overreacted to the comments. To me it kind of seemed like Robin Williams said it gently and his response was out of line.
