It's a 3 step process:
Spoiler

1. The dance
2. What's happening on the real world.
3. The dream. Which takes place with the dance. The dream is what is shown and not the dance. What happens in the dream is a figment of what is happening in the real world.

That explains why Jena Malone's character (Rocket) dies in the dream world, is because the chef stabbed her in the real world.

It's kind of hard to explain how the dance, the dream, and the real world is connected.
It was partially scripted wrong.

I think most of us here are movie buffs, i get the impression that most of us watch more films and a bigger variety of films than your average film watcher.

Wannabe... Anyhow if you are going to mention something about a film use spoilers.

It isn't difficult at all. The main reality only exists at the beginning and end of the film, the dream state she lives in otherwise is just a modified version of reality. All the characters exist it's just a different setting. The dreams are how she pictures the girls completing tasks as she's dancing.

I get what your saying bluetoon. But I understood Inception more than Sucker Punch. Part of the confusion is Bad Scripting. And what happened in the first 5-10 minutes of the movie? How did see end up in the Orphan Home? She mentioned something about her parents.
