Unhappy no more bad remakes please!

I think Hollywood lacks good writers at the moment and that is why they fall back to these old original stories because they can't make up new fresh ideas anymore. Or maybe they think we have all forgotten these classics and don't care about them anymore. Or maybe they'll just think its cool to remake them.

I am personally very sad about Robocop and Nightmare on Elmstreet, because they are favorites of mine and hated when the material isn't treated with respect.

There is no way they can redo Robocop and make it better, the have already tried that with the sequels and the stupid tv series. Even the mini-series, that promised to be harder just like the first movie, were a dissapointment.

I have seen the Nightmare on Elmstreet teaser and Freddy looks excactly the same, have the all thought that Robert Englund has died?
What is the purpose of a remake when your character looks excactly the same?

Anyway, i still have to overcome the big dissapointment that is G.I.Joe Rise of the Cobra, so i am not that exciting about upcoming movies that promise a lot and give so little. At least Terminator Salvation was pretty good.

Greetings to you all, movielovers!

Where have you seen the teaser? It's not officially out yet I don't believe.

I was holding off on this one and waiting for the DVD after originally wanting to see it in theatres but my brother just told me on the phone he was happy with it and we both usually have the same taste in popcorn flicks so now I'm back to wanting to see it again lol. I wasn't a big fan of the cartoon or the comic so is why I won't be as critical when it comes to the points you were making.

Transformers 2 had a weak ass storyline though. I'll agree there.

I wonder why a lot of movies nowadays are remakes? Can't they made new movies instead?

It's not that they can't come up with good ideas. There are original scripts floating around everywhere, and there are a lot of good indies with great stories.

There are so many remakes, reboots, rehashes, and otherwise adapting old material (i.e. cartoons, TV shows, etc) because that's the hot thing to do, and it's what's making money. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has been the biggest movie of the year, and it was a piece of crap, but it made tons of money. Friday the 13th did well. As long as people keep going to see them, they'll keep making them, even if half of them bomb, they'll keep going because that means the other half did well.

that and they like to take big franchises that they know people haveloved and make money on in the past and make a sequel or remake because people loved that past franchise so they hope the title and such will get people to go and see them. doesnt matter that most of the time it bites.

Exactly, and they can then also double-dip on DVD sales of the originals. For instance, with Friday the 13th, I already had the "From Crystal Lake to Manhattan" box set, but then have a whole new glob of extras on the repackaged, re-extra-ed versions of, to date, first 6 of the originals (including part 3, which you can watch in 3D or 2D on the new versions). They just have to break even on the film, and they'll definitely make it back on DVD, plus tons more on the re-released DVDs that won't cost them much more to put out.
