I'd be the same. Not unless it was a director well known for making great films is i think when i would consider watching it. I was a little letdown with the latest installment. I expected the action scenes to be better considering it's mega $200 million budget.

The cinematography was awesome and so were the terminators. But that wasnt enough when the story was weak. It was nothing special at all. There was something dead about salvation. What i mean is the film didnt have energy or life. It felt very stilted, kinda boring. Now as cheesy as t3 was, it still was enjoyable and that sure had plenty of charm. It still managed to capture much of the atmosphere as t2 did. Now if they make part 5 and its still mcg, i really dont expect any improvement. I agree with someone else here when they say that there has to be a director of great skill. My opinions? Mel gibson, richard donner, neil marshall (descent, dog soldiers) would be awesome choices. I would prefer to have james cameron back overall but why he doesnt do them, God knows. Terminator 1 is my fav, not only that, its also in my top 5 movies of all time. That film sure is atmospheric, has terrific music, script and arnie gave one hell of a performance. Man hes still scary in that. Every time i watch it, i forget he is arnie and actually think hes some killer cyborg. T2 is terrific 2. Though im in the minority in thinking that is not better than one, i still like the action, script and directing. Can someone pls tell me why mcg didnt use the famous terminator theme score in salvation? Im sorry but that weakened the film even more. Hearing the original score would have at least bolstered up a weak film. Kind of like smoke and mirrors where you create the illusion that something is there when its not. I'll be looking for another terminator film sure cos i am a huuuuuge terminator fan. Escape knows hehe....... ![]() But if its mcg, i dont expect much.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is terminator, so if hes not involved I'm not really that interested. The 4th film was watchable, but I ain't in a rush to see it again. I don't think there really is need for another film, from what i remember it ended with a solid ending. I guess its a chance to make some more money, oh well better this than them trying to reboot the movies.

'Terminator 5'. I am anticipating this film very much.
After the embarassing T3, which should have been called 'Terminatrix steals the show', I was very pleased with 'Salvation'. It went back to the desaturated look and darker tone of 'The Terminator' and made the series gritty again. It also went back to classic Jim Cameron style design for the machines. I liked that it was based in the early years of the conflict. Connor wasn't leader yet, no phase plasma rifles, etc. When the film ended I thought to myself, "Lets have the next one where the war is like the flashbacks we all know". Thats what 'Salvation' was building to. Now, I have no problem with Bale in this. Connor is played subtle and coarse, the future is different, he's lost his sense of direction and he is also conflicted. "This is not the future my mother warned me about...something has changed". They worked in things that Reese alludes to in 'Terminator' well too. Breaking people out of the prison camps and so forth, becomming leader and teaching them how to fight the machines. I loved the introduction of the prototype T-800, it had a wierd full circle type feel to it. I can't help wondering if they should clean up 'The Terminator', restore it like the old 007 outings, and augment it with some CG cleanup to make the scenes with the stop motion smoother and do some much needed colour correction and rerelease it with the cut scene where Sarah finds Cyberdyne in the phone book and Reese has his breakdown (a marvellous scene). |

I enjoyed Salvation. I think it plays better at home than in the theater really. Watching it without knowledge of the budget or anything like that helps too. I liked the Mad Max-ish feel to it. Plus, it was great not having to deal with an annoying John Conner for once. Bale made him much more interesting and believable as a leader.
I don't have a problem with McG either. I really don't understand the hate that he and Michael Bay get. They make big, loud, fun movies and aren't ashamed by it. If there is another Terminator movie though, I think it's time to explore some other characters in the world besides John Conner. His story is pretty much finished. I've heard the next one could be set in England, which would give it a new look at least. Rather than the barren wasteland, maybe we could see some Terminators hunting down human in the forests or something. Though I guess that would contradict what Reese said in the first film, in a deleted scene I think. |

If T5 is anything like Savlation, then I'm all for it. Salvation brought more dimension to the characters (esp. Sam Worthington's) and a more believable intensity. And I thought the motorcycle robots were cool.
