First of all:
HappyHalloween!
I've been continuing to slave away on Movie-Vault.com, working hours on it everyday. Here are some of the recent updates and improvements made to the site:
Our forum is now search engine and human friendly!
I purchased and installed a plugin for vBulletin called
vBSEO v3.3.2.
It is an extremely feature-packed
SEO plugin with countless
SEO options and settings. However, I use it primarily for the search-engine friendly URLs it provides.
The forum URLs are now human and
SEO-friendly. For example, here is an example comparison of an old URL and the new one:
OLD URL:
Code:
http://www.movie-vault.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4
NEW URL:
Code:
http://www.movie-vault.com/forum/movie-discussion/
While it may not mean much to you, search engines love it and it helps index us there better.
New Movie Vault Unveiling Rescheduled for November 2nd
I had really wanted to relaunch on November 1st, but if we had, there would have been a number of bugs, and I don't like to launch anything when I know it's not ready.
Fortunately, the delay is only for 24 hours, so on November 2nd, Monday morning, you will finally be able to see the new Movie-Vault.com... an upgrade around 5 years in the making.
All Forum Members Finally Merged and Migrated
You wouldn't have noticed anything, but over the past week I had been busy merging all of the migrated MovieForums.org members.
The initial forum merge went fine, but what you didn't see was what happened to all the members who emigrated from MovieForums.org who had the same member name on the Movie-Vault.com forums already. In these cases, the incoming username was renamed to "imported_name", since the system didn't know what to do with 2 members of the same name.
For example, if there was a member named "Bob" on MovieForums.org, when the import occurred, since there was already a member named "Bob" on Movie-Vault.com, the system automatically renamed the MovieForums.org "Bob" to "imported_Bob".
Therefore, if the MovieForums.org Bob had tried to log in, he wouldn't have been able to as it would have thought he was trying to log in as the (what the system thought was) the 'original' Bob, and the passwords wouldn't have matched.
Unfortunately, the only way to fix this was to edit each duplicate imported name by hand. There were around 200 to do, and so it took me many hours to fix each one by hand.
But, it's all done now, and there are no duplicate forum member conflicts anymore!
We're one day away!
We are only a little more than one day away until the new Movie-Vault.com is unveiled, so hang tight and be sure to check back soon, as we're coming back with a bang!
