Unsolved Old Sci-fi possibly horror/thriller

Ok, so we're going back to when i was somewhere between 6 and 8. i remember very little of the movie i saw it between 1994 and 1996 i know the beginning of the movie entiled a mother and daughter hooked up to a machine the daughter invades the mothers dream and they wake up daughter and mother argue and then go back to sleep daughter gets trapped in the "dreamscape" and a guy in the dream tries to help her get out. i would love to watch it again i just can't remember the name
