Unsolved Not Inception but dreamy

from what i can remember I believe the film was produced in the late 80s or early 90s. The plot consists of a group of friends who go into what I believe is a shared dream or similar dream and fight to stay alive. Im not thinking A Nightmare on Elm Street. For some reason I thought Keifer Sutherland was in it so I watch Flatliners but that wasn't it. Good flick though! Anyone have any guesses what it might be?
