Audiences Want More Of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus

Posted by JBoyance on Saturday, February 9th 2008

Burbank, California, February 3, 2008 --In response to the overwhelming demand for its 3-D feature version of Walt Disney Pictures’ “Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert,” and the film’s record breaking opening weekend (2/1-3) performance as the nation’s #1 film with an astounding three-day tally of $29 million. Disney is extending the length of the film’s theatrical run, it was announced today by Mark Zoradi, president, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group. The Disney Digital 3-D™ feature length concert film, which also features a special appearance by the enormously popular Jonas Brothers, will now play extended engagements. The film bowed in 683 3-D venues on February 1 and established a new industry record not only for Super Bowl weekend but for a Digital 3-D film opening with a per screen average of over $42,000 and a CinemaScore rating of “A”.

Commenting on the announcement, Zoradi said, “Audience reaction for the Disney Digital 3-D presentation of ‘Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert’ has been so overwhelming that we’ve decided to extend the film’s theatrical run. The extra playing time will give more fans a chance to see their favorite performer in an exciting new way that brings the concert experience to life on the big screen. It will also accommodate those fans who want come and enjoy the experience again. Miley is clearly one of today’s most exciting, talented and charismatic performers, and we’re delighted that her fans are having such a great time with this entertaining and innovative 3-D adventure.”

“Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” in Disney Digital 3-D™ was directed by Disney veteran Bruce Hendricks, and produced by Art Repola. Acclaimed director Kenny Ortega (the “High School Musical” films), conceived and produced the actual concert tour, and makes a special guest appearance in the film. Seven state-of-the-art 3-D digital cameras, provided by Cameron/Pace Designs (and utilizing the same innovative technology being used on James Cameron’s upcoming 3D film, “Avatar”) were used in the making of the film. Mitch Amundsen (“Transformers” and Martin Scorsese’s upcoming documentary, “Shine a Light”) served as director of photography, and Michael Tronick (“Hairspray”) was the editor.
