Okay, so the world ends, there'd be no sequal right? WRONG! Instead, we have "Escape From the Planet of the Apes" in which two apes escaped and travel through time to the 70s; the all-white version of the 70s apparently. Everyone's excited to see these talking apes and dress them up in tacky clothing, take them out on the town and make them drink champagne (they convince the apes it's grape juice plus). The only thing worse than watching an a pregnant ape take a bubble bath is seeing a drunk ape.
Finally the apes let their secret slip saying they're from the future and that eons from now apes will rule over man and that the Earth will be destryed in a thousands of years. So "the white guys" decide to kill the apes, who manage to hide their baby with Ricardo Montalban before they leave and get killed on a rusty old boat.
This one is one of the worst of the whole series because it's an AWFUL way to make a prequal and a sequal at the same time using the same characters. It even manages to leave itself open for a sequal too. I guess people just loved apes in the seventies. I swear to God that if Burton's remake goes into poorly thought out sequals it's the end of cinema as we know it.
