On my refrigerator I have those little kiddie magnet letters. They spell out "VERHOVEN CAN SUCK MY C**K!" That's exactly how I feel about the guy and his lousy, specil effects laden "movies." Ed Wood is a better director than Verhoven. Wood had one thing Verhoven desperatly lacks, ambition. Verhoven's just in it for the money, the asshole.
Okay, with that out of my system, on to Robocop. It's not even that good of an idea of a movie. A cop dies so they save his brain and face so they can use it to make a super cyborg cop. Of course the cop, Officer Musrphy, was shot through the face at the beginning. If you are able to read this, I'm sure you haven't shot yourself through the head. If you don't die, you have irrepreable brain damage! Ind if there's a big gaping bullet hole in your face, no plastic surgeon would even try to fix you@
There is really no plot. For the first 90 minutes or so it's just Robocop going around saving the day. He stops a burglar, saves a woman from rape, etc. Each time he does it with such an inhuman passivness. He tells the rape victim "You're in shock... get yourself to a rape crisis center." Although it's polite, it doesn't fit. If I was a rape victim, I'd slap him! If I were him, I'd take advantage of her crisis... don't most cops do that anyway?
The last 15 minutes or so of the movie add some sort of tension by making some sort of coruption that Robocop is forced to face. Of course it all ends happy because they have to make sequals. With the exception of Showgirls, there has always been a rumored sequal for a Verhoven film. Although I am dreading "Basic Instinct 2" it can't be as bad as I imagine "Starship Troopers 2" will be or even as bad as "Robocop 2"
