"Hangman" is a TV movie that apparently has been viewed by a very small amount of people, considering the number of comments you can find about it on the net. Still, not so bad for a TV movie.
Nick Roos (Lou Diamond Phillips) plays the detective in charge of a serial killing case, where the killer hangs his victims after he beats Detective Roos in a Hangman match through a computer. Pretty interesting. One of the victims is found by ex psychologist Grace Mitchell (Mädchen Amick), who starts helping with the case, going through files of previous pacients of her, etc.
From what's shown the audience can guess which of the characters are not the killer, but there are some that you just can't be sure about. Grace's stepfather, Dr. Henry Mitchell, is brought to the case. And the director of the hospital where he works (and Grace used to work) is also involved with some interesting stuff to say. There is also an employee of the hospital, Paul Jarvis, who admits to be obssed with Grace, but denies to be a serial killer. Also a couple of other detectives are helping Roos on the case.
The movie started wonderfully. The story seemed very intriguing and it was developing very nicely, the atmosphere was suspensful and a bit dark, it was definitely smart and thrilling; but the movie suffered the same problem so many movies have had through film history, it suddenly became bad. At first we see this story as a great serial killing case, the introduction of the characters was well done, and the things happening up until the first half of the film were all nice and kept me more and more interested in it, but somewhere after the first half the film became predictable, things changed and some of them were just disappointing. Too bad, since the acting was OK the entire film, and the story had a lot of potential, a waste of some good ideas.
I'm not sure about recommending it, it does have it's moments and the first 2/3'rds of the film were nice, but the last half hour or so let me down. Considering it doesn't have any 'big' stars in it, I don't think I'd be doing the right thing by recommending it to you, but if you're bored someday and there is nothing else to watch, then go ahead, who knows, you might even like it.
