"I love the dark...I love the dark! But I hate nature! I hate nature!"
The Goonies has come to be a favorite of kids everywhere. Especially kids that grew up in or around the eighties. There have always been fond memories of this movie.
The movie is about a group of kids who call themselves The Goonies who go looking for long lost pirate treasure on a rainy Saturday afternoon and encounter more than they bargained for. They are also soon joined by one of the kid's brother, the girl he has a crush on and her best friend. The group consists of Mikey (Sean Astin), Mouth (Corey Feldman), Chunk (Jeff Cohen), Data (Ke Huy Quan), Brand (Josh Brolin), Andy (Kerri Green), and Steph (Martha Plimpton).
There's also the bad guys that our heroes stumble upon, Mama, Jake and Francis Fratelli (Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi, and Joe Pantoliano) who start of the movie in high gear when they break Jake out of jail, leading to an impressive car chase and escape.
From there we meet our heroes, the Goonies. While playing around in the attic in Mikey's house, they find an old treasure map. They're all fascinated. You see, it's bad times at the Goondocks. The houses are being forclosed by the bank so a rich developer can build a golf course. But the Goonies think if they find the treasure, they can stop it, so off they go on the treasure hunt, with Brand in hot pursuit.
The Goonies is a thrilling adventure in the classic sense with plenty of action, suspense and humor. Things may be a little too intense for the younger ones, but pre-teens will probably enjoy this movie the most since they'd be about the same age as our heroes.
