Gilbert 'Gilly' Noble (Chris Klein) meets this girl Josephine 'Jo' Wingfield (Heather Graham) and they start dating. Gilly grew up in an horfanate, and he has hired an investigator to find his parents. One day, the investigator (who didn't seem too bright) told him his mother was Valdine Wingfield (Sally Field), Jo's mother. After this, Jo leaves the city, and the whole town finds out about this, and start calling Gilly a sister-f*cker.
After that Gilly's life changes completely, until one day he finds out that he isn't Jo's brother. Her real brother showed up at her parent's place. After this, Gilly goes after Jo and wants to stop her from marrying some rich guy she knew before Gilly. But Jo's mother wont allow that, because she wants some of that guy's money. Jo's real brother is also in favor of his mother, so they call the police and warn them about Gilly.
Jo's father had a stroke, and he is in a very funny (it would be sad in real life, but in the film it's pretty funny) situation. Gilly meets a black man with an afro, Dig McCaffey (Orlando Jones), who has lost his legs and flies planes for a living. His performance was pretty funny in here.
That rich guy Jo is going to marry also wants to prevent Gilly from talking to Jo, so he tells some of the people who work for him to stop him. The do some bad things to Gilly, somehow he even ends in a mental institution.
I've heard bad stuff about this film everywhere, and after watching it I can't disagree with those bad comments. But even though the plot and acting aren't the best, there are some laughs that make up for it, so although I wouldn't recommend it very strongly, I'd say it wouldn't be bad to watch it if you're bored and you're a comedy fan.
