Christopher Dubois (Jean Claude Van Damme) is found by Lord Edgar Dobbs (Roger Moore) while he was a prissoner in a boat, and he is taken to an island, where people fight. They teach him to fight also. There is this secret fighting contest, with fighters from all over the world, the best fighters, that is being held around this time. The prize is a golden dragon.
Dobbs goes with the person slected from the United States, Maxime Divine (James Remar), and Dubois goes with them too, carrying the guy's luggage. Also a female reporter goes with them. Dobbs just wants a piece of the golden dragon, apparently. One day, Divine discovers that Dubois is actually a better fighter than him, so he lets him fight the contest. Since this was sort of cheating, the people from that secret city make a deal with them, if Dubois wins, nothing happens, if he loses, they'll stay in the city forever.
Well you can guess what happens in the mean time, there is this bad fighter who you know from the beggining that it's the one Van Damme will face at the end. And you know he's going to win, of course. You also think you know the fight scenes are going to be cool, but in there you're not quite right. The fight scenes aren't even that great, not bad, but no big deal.
I am not sure, but it seemed to me that Van Damme's career as a director should end immediately. The film is pretty bad, not very interesting. Same with the acting, although it's expected to see bad performances by Jean Claude, people watch his films for his kicks.
Van Damme also wrote this film, along with Frank Dux, who is the fighter with all those fighting records, the film "Bloodsport" was based on him, I believe. I wouldn't recommend this under any circumstances.
