Schizopolis brings you into an eccentric section of Soderbergh's mind, a fairy tale land of bizarre characters and meaningless conversation. This film was pass time for Soderbergh. You think your having some kind of dream. It's just a bunch of different ideas spit out quick with someone trying to make sense of it all just as quick. A one of a kind masterpiece.
Steven Soderbergh stars as Fletcher Munson a worker for this science religion company called Eventualism. After the death of one of the writers he is promoted to the spot and has to have a speech ready in a couple days.This then keeps him from and romantic involvement with his wife. So she cheats on him with his other personality Dr. Jeffrey Korchek a dentist. Meanwhile an exterminator type guy named Elmo Oxygen travels the city as a ladies man speaking to them in a coded language. But he finds a better deal with another movie company and quits the set of Schizopolis. All this and many other things go one but an accurate full plot summary of this movie would fill a page or two.
A problem with this film is some people who tend to be straightforward and like their movie that way will hate this. It jumps around a lot and takes a good sense of humor to stand. It may be too bizarre for people or too hard to understand but that's it. Nothing else slaps you in the face as being horrible. It is just a quirky film that takes some liberties all for the sake of comedy. And it's worth it.
Schizopolis is the comic side of Soderbergh. A strange humor but it works. Soderbergh's film completely revolts against all rules of making a movie and creates a fun semi satire masterpiece. It may shun you away but if you just realize its all fun. This is an enjoyable experience.
