The God of the super psychics is actually a big pahallic symbol that's actually a nuclear weapon. Oh sure, even our most advanced ones only have a half life of say, 150 years, before they expire, but this one has stayed completly active for thousands of years. And when the apes attack (mostly these gorillas, that the director made sure were completly drunk of 40 ouncers of malt liquor) come by and start beating up people and wrecking havoc, Heston blows up the nuclear bomb and ends all of humanity and apemanity. And the end of the world.
It's a good sequal and should have been the only one. After this one came mind boggling sequal/prequal crap with a whole thing about altering time and all that sci-fi crap. Although this one does go WAY into sci-fi overkill. Bald people speaking in beeps, that's going way too far.
