This is honestly the best Star Trek movie. I personally never saw the original episode that had Kahn in it, but you don't really need to, it's briefly explained, and besides, you don't need to knwo the history anyway. The exciting story, Ricardo Montalban's FANTASTIC acting, and the special effects, all add up to make a phenomonal movie. This is one of the few instances where the sequal is BETTER than the original.
Nicholas Meyer, is generally a lousy director. Beofre Star Trek 2, he directed this lousy, piece of crap movie called "Time After Time" where Jack the Ripper and H.G. Wells go time travelling. It really sucked, never watch it. Then he directed this AWESOME movie, and then he went back to doing crap. Even the other Star Trek movie he directed was pale in comparison to this!
While out exploring space, the USS Enterprise recieve a distress call from a science station. On this station they are researching the super top secret Project Genesis, which can create an entire planet. One a nearby planet lurks Kahn, in exile where Kirk put him years ago. Chekov and some other guy are checking out the planet, and Kahn begins to work his evil plan.
Kristie Alley makes her big screen breakthrough in this movie, and she fits well with the rest of the cast. It's a shame they didn't use her in the other movies, they would have been better choices for her career than "Look Who's Talking."
I give this movie a 9 based on the fact that it's so cool. Why not a 10? Sci-fi just ain't my genre. The only Sci-Fi I'll ever watch is Star Trek, and sometimes it's too unbearable for me to watch. I hated that "Voyager" series. I highly recommend this movie though, even if you hate Star Trek. If you're one of those fans that goes to conventions and speaks Klingon languages to the people at McDonald's, then you've probably already seen this movie.
