Normally I hate Tin Allen. I was able to bear a few episodes of Home Improvment but I slowly began to not watch that show. But I hate sitcoms, so it's not Tim Allen's fault really. But some of the movies he's had to do like "The Sant Clause" (and it's upcoming sequal) and "Jungle 2 Jungle" have al been pretty bad. But "Galaxy Quest" was actually pretty good, and Tin Allen did a great job playing his role. Of course Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman were great, but they always are.
The movie is about a TV show called Galaxy Quest that's exactly like Star Trek in many respects. Sure some names have been changed, but it's Star Trek. It has a billion fans (all called Questies) and extravagent conventions all over the place. I like Star Trek, but that's about it. I'm not a fan, or fanatic. And I'm especially NOT a Trekkie, one of the craziest, most obsessive people in the world. Well some aliens far far away have seen these episodes and mistaken them for 'historical documents.' Since they're in danger, they call on Tim Allen and the rest of the cast of "Galaxy Quest" to save them. They've built their whole society after that TV show. Sigourney Weaver asks them about "Gilligan's Island" and the aliens get sad and say "Those poor people." People with that much trust are fun to mess with. I would have wanted to see them base their whole society on shows like "My Mother the Car" or britan's "Absolutly Fabulous." What would they have thought of shows like "Survivor" and "The Real World"? Such an interesting concept they used for this movie, but they didn't explore it to the full context that was possible.
All around it is a really great movie. It's a parody of shows like Star Trek and their obsessiveness. A lot of scens are funny, and the humor is more thought out than just a quick joke. I gave it five out of six because it was very entertaining. The plot was pretty predictable, but it was a great parody, on par or excedding Mel Brook's work (definatly excedding his recent work). I'd recommend this movie. Even if you hate Star Trek, it's still quite entertaining.
