There were an abundance of teen flicks for every genre produced in the 90s and many were comedies. Of course there weren't just a lot of teenage flicks about every subject, there was a main theme that has been widely used in the past years: Sex. That's exactly what American Pie is about, and is made of. More comments ahead.
American Pie is about a group of teenagers on their last High School year who set themselves the goal of 'scoring' before or at the prom night. They are trying to do anything in order to have sex, but their attemps are ridiculous sometimes and that's where the comedy fits in. A hot european girl, Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), goes to Jim's (Jason Biggs) house to study, but of course Jim wants to do more than studying, will he be successful in his attemps to nail Nadia?. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas, remember "Rookie of the Year"??) has a girlfriend, Vicky (Tara Reid), and in order to please her he seeks information in some kind of sex-bible he finds through his older brother. Chris a.k.a. 'Oz' (Chris Kline) joins the school's chorus in order to conquer one of the girls (Mena Suvari). Paul (Eddie Kaye Thomas) is spreading fake rumours in order to get some girls to like him.
It's very funny to see what this guys are willing to do in order to get laid. Their friend Stifler (Sean William Scott) is also a pretty funny guy, his talking is pretty funny in this film. If you're not a big fan of jokes based on teen sex and/or masturbation and that kind of stuff, then you shouldn't watch this film, it might disappoint you. On the other hand, if you had teen years like this, or you're a teen, or if you just don't care what the jokes are about, then you should watch this.
There isn't really a specific plot, the whole film is about that group of friends who really want to hit a 'Home Run' before the prom night. There is also something I noticed while watching it, and it's that in the trailer they show most of the funny scenes, they should be more careful with that, because people certainly don't want to see the funniest scenes in the trailer! But having seen it wouldn't spoil it for you, so don't worry you'll enjoy it anywyas. I pity thse who have qualified this film as gross for some if it's jokes, those people need to open their eyes and realize that young audience find that funny, so if an old (at heart) person doesn't find the jokes funny, it's his/her problem; I just can't get how can some people trash this film when it was one of the most popular films of 1999, not only in the US but everywhere, young audience loved it. Recommending this film depends on the age and sense of humor as I've already said, so I won't say more about that now.
