When CEO Gary Winston's (Tim Robbins) software company is threatened by outside programmers, he has them killed off in order to protect his monopoly over the internet and software industry. Looking to release the most powerful communications software available to the world, he finds a college computer nerd to do the most important tasks. Unfortunate for Winston, the kid he hired is the one who will unfold his evil plot.

The concept of this movie had something going, but it all collapsed 30 seconds into the movie, when Winston begins to describe some of the blue prints to his software. I honestly believe little or no research was done to make even the slightest attempt to make any of it accurate. And when other smaller firms start to catch up, they are all killed off.

Milo Hoffmon (Ryan Phillippe)begins an investigation after his best friend is killed for acting as a competitor to Winston's firm. He learns there is a giant conspiracy putting him in the center, with everybody after him because he learns to much.

Dry characters and the pitiful acting keeps the suspense to a bare minimum. That is sad, because the final momments was the part that could of saved the movie, yet it never recovers. I only watched the movie because the story appealed to me, but now I know why it didn't last more than a week in most theaters.
