1974 was a good year for Mel Brooks. In that year, Brooks made two of his most popular and financially successful movies, "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein,"
"Young Frankenstein" is one of Brooks' best films. "The Producers" is his best, and most of the stuff he's done recently hasn't been that great. Brooks uses a LOT of the same jokes in his movies over and over again, but it was back in "Young Frankenstein" that a lot of these jokes originated. This movie is non-stop laughter.
This movie is a parody of the old Frankenstein movies. Gene Wilder plays Dr. Fredrich vn Frankenstein whose grandfather, the legendary Victor Frankenstein, has passed away leaving his grandson his estate. Frankenstein travels to the old mansion where he meets Igor (Marty Feldmen) and Inga (Teri Garr). There they create a monster (Peter Doyle) that terrorizes the country side.
Ever scene in this movie is funny. It's one of the funniest movies ever made. A little bit ot trivia though. Mel Brooks stars in most of his movies, yet not in this one... BUT he does have an offscreen cameo. Brooks is the sound of the offscreen cat getting hit by a dart. He also does the sound of the howling wolf on the way to the castle.
Over all, I gave "Young Frankenstein" a 8. It's throughly funny and well made. I HIGHLY recommend seeing this movie. If you've already seen it, see it again!
