The story is quite simple and unoriginal: Arnold plays ex-militar John Matrix, the best there ever was, but he is now retired and he spends his time in his house in the mountains with his daughter Jenny (played by a very young Alyssa Milano). Some people want to kill the president of Val Verde, and they want the best to the the job, so they force Matrix to do the job by kidnapping his daughter and telling him if he doesn't do it, she dies. But he thinks they would kill her anyways, so he has to think of a way to get his daughter back before they notice he isn't on his way to kill the president of Val Verde.
And that's where it all begins. The film has a poor story, acting (Arnold's longest sentence might be his trademark one, "I'll be back", which is used here), direction and everything you could possibly think of, except for the action scenes, those were abundant, sometimes gory and always exaggerated. Arnold goes from ripping a seat out of a car with his own hands, to lifting a phone cabin with his own hands and finally killing an entire army by himself. That's the biggest exageration of all, he takes up an army using all kinds of weapons, shotguns, machine guns, grenades, rocket launchers, knives and even axes. Just another film which only purpose is to show Arnold's biceps and try to make the audience believe that someone is actually capable of beating the entire world by himself, "What a great action hero!!". It's not my intention to recommend it or not, just to let people know what to expect in case you ever decide to watch it.
In conclusion, "Commando" would be perfect for people who want to see this kind of action, something actually similar to "Rambo", the "one man can handle an entire army" type of action, but if you're not a fan of this type of action flicks, then I suggest you skip this one.
Note: This is also the film with the most mistakes I know of! There are a bunch of little errors that makes the audience think the filmmakers were rookies, small stuff like a wound disappearing from one scene to another, a car being damaged and the next scene being repaired, bullet holes disappearing, stuff like that, if you look carefuly you'll find about a hundred of these!
What do you think of Commando
