Who would have thought Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were actually able to write a script, and what's even worse, a good one? By the time I watched the film I didn't know it was written by them, when I found out I was impressed since the film is very good and Matt Damon started getting a bunch of roles in big movies after all the good critics it got when it was released.

Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgård) is a math professor at MIT who leaves a very hard problem on the blackboard one day, which is up to any of the students to solve it. Will Hunting (Matt Damon) is a janitor at MIT, but his intelligence seems to be way above normal so he solves that math problem just for fun. When prof. Lambeau finds out the problem has been solved he is dying to know who did it, but none of his students claim to have done it. He would soon find out it was Will, the young man who sweaps the university halls, but Will had gotten into a fight and ended up in jail, so Lambeau makes him a deal: If he practices math with him and sees a therapist he'll pay his bail. Will accepts the deal, but every shrink he is taken to gets irritated and says he can't work with Will, so Lambeau takes him to an old friend, Sean Maguire (Robin Williams) who seems to be the only one who will work with Will.

Most of the film is about Will's talking with Sean, but there are also other stories such as his relationship with Skylar (Minnie Driver) and the time he spends hanging out with his friends, one of them, Chuckie, played by Ben Affleck.

Will is the kind of guy who doesn't care about meterial stuff, he lives in a crappy house and works as a janitor knowing that he could quickly become rich if he uses his mental skills, and that's basically what everyone is telling him to do, to make usage of that gift. The dialogues in this film are great, specially the conversations between Damon and Williams, they talk about a few different subjects and they're all interesting; there's also a little bit of comedy added to those conversations, that was a good idea because otherwise the film might have been a bit boring.

Although some people say Damon's best performance was in "The Talented Mr. Ripley", I believe he this is his best piece of work, he was very good in here. It's nice to see Robin Williams in a serious role and he proved he can do his work very well, his great performance earned him an Academy Ward for best Supporting Actor. Affleck, Driver and Skarsgård were OK in their supporting roles. The story is great, so is the acting and even the soundtrack, which contains some good songs by Elliot Smith. If you haven't seen it you might wanna try to sometime soon.
