In the Bible, in the book of Apocalypse, it says something about "Satan being released of it's cage after two thousand years", or something like that -You can find it in Apoc. 20,7 in the Bible-, so the year is 1999 and the time is about to come.
Gabriel Byrne is Satan, and by new year's eve he is here on earth, ready to take over it. But he needs to get together with a girl who was meant to be Satan's wife sinc ethe day she was born. She is Crhistine York (Robin Tunney), and Satan is going after her. Jericho Cane (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a police man who finds out about this, and tries to protect Christine from Satan, something that sounds like an impossible task.
The Church people want to kill her, because once she's dead there is nothing Satan could do, but Jericho is the guy who thinks they should kill Satan instead, not the poor and innocent Christine. Many people are involved with this and are helping Satan, including some police officers.
Well that is how the story goes. It's an Arnold-Satan fight for Christine. This is Arnold's first film since 1997's Eraser; he couldn't do anything during that period because of heart problems. Very few people would call this a "great Arnold comeback", a big majority was disappointed. Arnold is old now, he shouldn't do this roles, he looks old even when he runs now. For some reason I absolutely hate Robin Tunney, she is so annoying, it's hard for me to watch her -Of course I didn't think exactly like this until I saw Vertical Limit-. The only good thing about this film was Satan; Byrne gives a good performance as a cool devil, and it's nice to see him act. In all other aspects, this film is pathetic. I wouldn't recommend it under any circumstances.
PS: I must admit I got a little bit intrigued because I watched the film in December 29th in theaters, so if this was going to be true, it would have been only 2 days after. Many people who watched the film in late 99 got scared, but nothing happened apparently. :)
