"In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes".
Andy Warhol's famous quote is the basis for this dumb and pretentious, yet somewhat exciting and reasonably unpredictable film, starring Robert DeNiro and Edward Burns. It's an ambitious film, part-media satire, part-buddy cop thriller, with some comedic touches and some quite brutal violence.
Robert DeNiro plays Eddie Flemyng, a homicide detective who is teamed up with fire marshal Jordy Warsaw (Edward Burns) to track down a pair of Eastern European criminals, who have been butchering innocent people and filming their deaths. When the two criminals learn they are being tracked down, they decide to target the detectives.
The reason 15 minutes is not the film it could have been is because it has too much plot. As a media satire, it's quite heavy handed even if it is a bit clever at times. DeNiro is good as usual, but his character is cliched and dull.
However, despite how flawed the film is, you can still have fun with it. There are a number of exciting scenes, particularly the scene where Jordy and a woman try to make their way out of a flaming building. If you plan to see this movie, just try and enjoy it as a conventional thriller.
