When Daniel Zavitz (Jason Lee) finds out he has a disc containing a video of a politician being murdered by some important person, Thomas Reynolds (Jon Voight), he tries to call a friend who works in a newspaper, to see if they can publish that, since at the moment it was thought that the dead politician commited suicide. But the NSA go after Zavitz, and he starts to run. Before getting killed, he sees an old friend from shcool, Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith), and he puts the disct inside Dean's bag without him noticing.
After this, the NSA thinks Dean has the disc -but he doesn't know until later- and start chasing him. After the murder of one of Dean's friends, he decides to contact Brill (Gene Hackman), a trustable contact of the victim. Brill knows about the NSA since he worked there, and he shows Dean all the bugs he is carrying in his clothes. But Brill doesn't want to get involved because he knows what he would get into.
After a lot of running Dean and Brill team up trying to beat those NSA people. Then Dean tries to solve his problem in a pretty cool way, but will it work? There is more to say about the story line but I'll limit it to what I've said so far. It's not good to give out even the smallest details, it could spoil it for you, or make it less entertaining.
This film entertained me pretty much, it's a good action film with a great story; very thrilling also. The film shows how some people, like the NSA, can get deep into your lives to the point that they can watch you in your own house. This is one of Smith's best performances. Gene Hackman and Jon Voight were great as always. There are many known people in this film with shorter roles: Jason Lee, Seth Green, Barry Pepper, Jake Busey, Gabriel Byrne, Jack Black, Jamie Kennedy, Loren Dean, Regina King, Lisa Bonet and some others. Most of the times I rate a movie taking in account how entertaining it was to me, and I must say I really enjoyed this one. I promise it'll keep you hooked up for the whole 2 hours. Don't miss it.
