This film did not seem full, only a plot section of a possible Swingers type sequel. Favreau and Vaughn team up again to offer another swingin hit. But the offer refused. This movie is no hit but rather a movie still trying to ride Swinger's bandwagon. Most of the movie is Favreau and Vaughn fighting with words or fists with the occasional comical line but most fall flat. This movie seemed short and not whole but yet also too long to keep anyone interested.
Favreau and Vaughn are two dreaming boxers hoping to make it big. After a couple incidents they end involved in a job given to them by a low class mob boss (Peter Falk). Vaughn always opens his mouth too much and gets them in trouble. Almost ruining an easy drop off job.
This film's clearest annoyance is Vaughn's character Ricky. Ricky demands an explanation of everything and refuses to be wrong. Vaughn plays a good role as an annoying loser who thinks he knows it all. But he goes to far and creates an annoyance to the viewer. Tone down Ricky and you're a step closer to a better film.
The soothing music is fitting as a contradiction to the annoyances, violent fights and the sorrow you feel for the characters as parts of their lives crumble and the fact they have a strong belief in their coolness. When they were just normal guys with failing dreams.
Acting carries this film the 90 minutes distance even through the limping towards the end. Favreau, Falk and even Vaughn play their roles well enough but some weak points hurt it. Such as Vaughn going the extreme. Sean Combs is decent but not surprising. The plot is original but not very expanded. Favreau and Vaughn play off each other well, the one Swingers quality. Made is decent but not anything a Swingers fan was looking for
Made does not live up to its elder Swingers. Hopefully only being a step before a comparison worthy sequel is made. Made does not make it. The acting fit but not strong. Favreau pens another enjoyable film with an original plot but not the style of the lounge classic Swingers.
