SAMPLE REVIEW)
3000 Miles to Graceland
Watching "3000 Miles to Graceland" is like passing a stone the size of a poker chip. You push and heave, push and heave, hoping to hell you pinch it off before your bowels combust. Disgraceful, gratuitous and all together preposterous, this multiplex swill is as much a wannabe Tarantino caper as it is a story for heavy metal rednecks craving the outlaw lifestyle.
Slowly moving itself in Las Vegas, this empty bloodbath rehash involves a group of casino robbing Elvi, led by a raging sociopath, Kevin Costner, ostensibly one of two bastard children fathered by The King.
During production, it appears that somebody may have also used the pizza delivery guy’s book on filmmaking. The recycled plot devices, flying character brands and dialogue gags are in definite need of a breather. The director, Demian Lichtenstein, familiar with every music video and commercial technique, totters baselessly with swooping cranes, speed mixing, over-cuts, and wall-slamming music cues. The sad sack workings are etched in singular ineptitude.
Having to sit through the excruciating two hours rather than picking at elbow chafe, the heist and the job itself occupy the first thirty minutes. Michael (Kurt Russell), a guarded loner type, rolls into town and hooks up with a trashy single mom, Cybil (Courtney Cox), long enough to get his wallet stolen by her naughty 11-year-old son, Jesse (David Kaye).
What seems neither an affinity nor homage, 3000 Miles to Graceland eulogizes itself from start to finish. In the long legacy of bad flicks, this one is king. No slight intended, but if this is the film that forces us to revitalize the nostalgic pleasure of Elvis Presley, I’d rather him stay good and dead.
